Registered Agent Price Lock › Teaser-rate checklist
Is it a teaser rate? Six questions to ask a registered agent page
Mainstay Filing answers all six the same way: $149 a year, $149 at renewal, state fees at cost, cancel before renewal and it does not renew. Here is what to ask anyone else.
- Is the price per year? Read the billing unit. Swyft Filings shows $149 per quarter, which is $596 a year, and says so on its page of October 20, 2026.
- Does the price need a formation order? Some “free” or reduced first years apply only if you form the company with the same provider. Bizee’s $149 agent price is its standalone price; the first year is free only with its formation.
- Does the first-year price apply to new customers only? Harbor Compliance lists $99 for the first year for new customers, then $159. ZenBusiness lists $99 plus state fees for the first year, then $199.
- Is the renewal price fixed, or “subject to change”? LegalZoom’s page shows $249 and says it auto-renews at the purchase rate, with the renewal rate subject to change. A price that is the same today is not the same as a price the page commits to.
- Is the price per state? Northwest’s page says its price has not gone up in 20 years, and also that it is $100 a year per state for five or more states. A flat price can still scale with the number of states you add.
- What does cancelling cost? Mainstay Filing: Tell Mainstay Filing before renewal and it will not renew. A filing already submitted that year cannot be refunded. Look for the same sentence on any page you are about to buy from.
